When blood vessel wall breaks, the conversion of prothrombin into thrombin is carried by thromboplastin acting as a signalling enzyme.

This thrombin then leads to the activation of fibrin trapping the white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets into its netlike structure, thus forming a clot.
